Drakonis
Drakonis are a species of draconic reptilians, that are the only sentient species known to inhabit the world of Lumyr. They're intelligent, social creatures that commonly live in groups, ranging from small family clans to big cities. The drakoni are said to have originated from the so called Endless, an ancient species of drakoni that once inhabited Lumyr.
Being social creatures, drakoni subconsciously seek out other individuals of their species, following the belief that you are stronger as a group. Drakoni that chose a life of solitude, separated from their kin and the artifacts that offer them a connection to the world's magic, typically don't last long without reverting to a more feral state, living life based on primal instinct rather than intellect.
The world of Lumyr is filled with primal energy called Myrra that runs through the earth like veins, imbuing every inch of it with magic. However, most creatures, including the drakonis, are unable to channel these energies without exterior help.
Although not born with this connection, drakonis are always born with a dormant affinity for one of the five elements: fire, water, wind, light, and shadow until later in life. This affinity can later be used to conduct Myrra in order to perform magic through the use of a weapon, every drakonis picks when they reach their adolescence.
Lumyr is inhabited by three types of drakoni; the althiar, the yashoi and the miuvolke. Despite all sharing the same origin, the althian are the ones most closely resembling their presumed ancestors. The yashoi, who are theorized to have been around for as long as the althiar, stayed in the eastern parts of Lumyr until a few millenia ago. Compared to their brethren the miuvolke are the most recently discovered subspecies of drakonis, only having been around in larger numbers for about 3,000 years.

Each species of drakoni has its own strengths, weaknesses, and physical aspects unique to them as well as abilities they exceed in compared to others. Ultimately they do belong to the same family, however, and are capable of interbreeding and growing the same traits. While gender expression exists and drakoni often have a preference for identifying as male or female, they are all hermaphrodites, meaning they possess both reproductive organs.
